Permanent Residency Visa

These are the categories for Chinese citizens:

• Someone was born in Hong Kong before or after the establishment of the HKSAR(Hong Kong Special Administrative Region).
• Someone who has normally resided in Hong Kong for a continuous period of not less than seven years before or after the establishment of the HKSAR.
• Someone of Chinese nationality who had been born outside Hong Kong before or after the establishment of the HKSAR to a parent who, at the time of birth of that person, was a Chinese citizen falling within one of the two previously mentioned categories.

These are the categories for non-Chinese citizens:

• A person who is not a Chinese citizen who has entered the country with a verified travel document, who has resided in the country for a minimum of 7 years and has chosen Hong Kong as their place of residence before or after the establishment of the HKSAR.
• A person under 21 years of age born in Hong Kong to a parent who is a permanent resident of the HKSAR under the previously mentioned category either before or after the establishment of the HKSAR, if they have a parent that had or has a right of abode in Hong Kong at any time of the person’s life before they turned 21
• A person who was not mentioned in any of the previous categories but had the right of abode in Hong Kong before the HKSAR was established

• Required application forms ROP(Right of Abode)145/146.
• Resume containing basic educational and work information.
Copy of all passports that were held by the applicant in the previous 7 years.
• Tax returns(for salary)in the last 7 years.
• Statement of travel records.
• Letter containing details of the applicant’s life in Hong Kong(in chronological order).
• Copies of Hong Kong identity card.
• Reference letters from previous Hong Kong employers.
• Testimonial from current employer about employee’s work details.
• Proof of applicant’s continued residence in the last 7 years(copies of credit card and bank statements as well as utility bills).
• Proof of applicant’s stay in Hong Kong in the form of residential tenancy agreements(in case of rented accommodation) or land registry record(in case of own property).

These are the following steps that have to be followed in order to obtain the PR visa:

Prepare all the requested documents

Ensure that all the required documents that need to be submitted are available. Once everything has been properly checked, proceed to the next step.

Find a suitable consulate or embassy

Locate an embassy or consulate that will help you with your application. Having a sponsor can help with a successful visa application.

Pay the required visa fees

Ensure that the required fees have been paid successfully. If this is not done within the stipulated time, the visa application will not be processed.

Wait for the result

The visa application may take up to 6 weeks to be processed. If the application has been found to be successful, then the applicant will receive their visa.
